Although the trip to Mauritius was short, the experience is still alive and left a lasting impression on me. Through my visit as part of the delegation led by the Swiss Blockchain Federation and organised by the Swiss Embassy, I had the chance to meet many inspiring people, who are willing to use technology as a driving force for progress. For me, it became crystal clear that Mauritius has the potential to emerge as a leading hub in Africa for the development of a blockchain ecosystem.
Seeing this high potential, CV VC has started to evaluate the possible creation of an African Chapter, which would focus on establishing Mauritius as a blockchain hub for Africa. We want to do our part and contribute to a growing and flourishing blockchain ecosystem in Africa by supporting entrepreneurs with great ideas and giving them a chance to focus on the development of their ideas and products. We believe that innovation based on blockchain technology knows no borders and we are excited about the opportunities to build the ecosystem from Mauritius.
During my visit I presented CV VC’s approach to create a blockchain technology ecosystem for Africa in three seminars. In collaboration with the Swiss Embassy and the Economic Development Board of Mauritius I spoke at the Hennessy park Hotel and the University of Mauritius. A third seminar was organised at the African Leadership College during the visit.
On these occasions I came across some of the leading stakeholders of Mauritius which are on the forefront of the Mauritian push to become a blockchain ecosystem with global impact. These people can make a difference with the necessary framework, infrastructure, talent and capital.
The thriving spirit of Mauritius was not only recognized by me, but also by Véronique Haller, Deputy Head of Mission at the Swiss Embassy, which described the potential as following: “Switzerland in Europe and Mauritius in Africa are seen as leaders to enable research and innovation to translate into business”, and that both countries shared a “hardworking and confident spirit”.
Mauritius could play an important role in the development of CV VC’s blockchain ecosystem. We are currently evaluating the potential establishment of a CV VC African Chapter as a private sector initiative in Mauritius for the whole of Africa.
